Hi! My name is Sam, and I’m an experienced chemistry tutor with both academic and industry experience. I earned my B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Richmond and my Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I currently work as an Applications Engineer in the semiconductor industry, where I help customers implement semiconductor solutions into their products and processes. My academic and professional background has given me extensive experience explaining complex technical concepts in clear and approachable ways.
During my time at UNC, I worked as a teaching assistant in both lecture and lab courses across multiple subjects within chemistry. In 2020, I received the Student Undergraduate Teaching Award for my work in teaching analytical chemistry. I also have experience helping students with general chemistry, organic chemistry, and my personal favorite, physical chemistry. In addition, my background in chemistry and engineering allows me to help students with elementary through early college physics and math courses, particularly those that support chemistry and engineering curricula. I enjoy working with students of all ages and understand that every student learns differently, so I aim to tailor my teaching style to each student's needs.
Overall, I like to focus on building an intuitive understanding rather than memorization. Science can often feel overwhelming, especially when concepts begin to build on one another, and my goal is to help students break difficult topics into manageable ideas that make sense. I aim to create a supportive and approachable learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenging material at their own pace.
I’m happy to work either online or in person, please feel free to reach out with any questions. love helping people learn and gain confidence in STEM subjects!
