As a freelance musician and music producer, I lived and worked in Los Angeles for 5 years producing music and teaching guitar and music production, working as a studio musician, and performing as a solo guitarist. I collaborated with Grammy-winning Producer Darryl Swann, co-producing and mixing some of my productions including the song Pink Sunshine (feat. Xara) . I studied music production at Columbia College Chicago as well as studying with private mentors in Los Angeles and London.

A custom curriculum will be created for every student based upon what they'd like to learn, and their experience. If the student doesn't know what they'd like to learn, a curriculum will be provided.

I studied classical guitar with University of Oregon's John Jarvie, earning his Associate of Arts from Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon. I continued studying classical guitar at Columbia College Chicago with Norman Ruiz and performed there with the Latin Ensemble.

As a teacher, I currently work as a guitar instructor at Myriad Music in San Mateo.

I also work as a freelance instructor but have also worked as a private and group guitar instructor at other music schools in the past -

I perform solo guitar at private events, weddings, and venues with a setlist including classical guitar, bossa nova/jazz and original finger-style compositions. I teach classical guitar using the Christopher Parkening Method.
I also teach and perform modern music on electric guitar ; soul/funk, R&B/soul, pop, singer-songwriter and rock.

I received an Associate of Art degree with a focus in Music, so I am well rounded with different aspects of music. I was trained with general piano skills, rhythm training, ear training as well as classical and jazz guitar. I play 4 different instruments - Guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums; and I compose and record with all of those instruments. I currently teach private guitar and bass, and music production lessons but have also taught group guitar and rock band classes before.

I have been a guitar teacher for over 15 years, teaching all skill levels and ages. I have taught private and group lessons in different music establishments as well as in home lessons, and I'm happy to provide a resume for any inquiries. I enjoy playing and teaching pop, rock, classical guitar, folk finger-style, Brazilian jazz, soul, R&B, funk and improvisational guitar. I am able to assist with tablature, reading notes and reading sheet music in many different styles including the ones listed above. Through plucking and picking exercises, rhythmic strumming and sight reading, I assure that I can help my students reach a higher level of playing. I have been performing guitar and bass guitar for over 10 years around Chicago and the West Coast. Performing is my passion and I believe it's the most important aspect of learning music whether you are playing guitar for fun, in front of friends, or performing guitar at a concert.

I'd love to help you learn music production whether it's learning how to make drum beats, record your own voice or instrument, or editing and mixing your own music. I will teach you how to work quickly in your DAW, so you can focus on the music. I can also help you set up your audio interface and studio gear. I've been working with a UA Apollo Twin interface for years and started with an Apogee Duet. I've helped a lot of students and musicians that use the Focusrite Scarlett Interfaces. I've produced music in Ableton Live, Logic Pro and Pro Tools for 10 years total. I get hired by artists to record and produce their songs in various genres; pop, rock, electronic, rock, latin, r&b/soul, hip hop and acoustic music. I've also worked for a company creating songs for sync licensing and music placements.

I have been through 3 years of Music Theory in college and I've always received an A in those classes. Many people struggle with music theory classes but having a teacher who explains the concepts clearly is crucial to understanding Music Theory. With patience and determination, I can help you achieve a better understanding of Music Theory.
Songwriting

I write my own musical pieces, working with software for music production and recording. I have also played and writen bass lines for electric bass guitar in a band. One of my previous teaching jobs included working with youth bands where I taught them contemporary songs, helped them write original songs as well as preparing their bands for performances.

Matt is a great production instructor, and was able to help me inside of my Ableton session. I learned many Ableton keyboard shortcuts which has made my work flow much quicker and more efficient. He helped me dial in the sound on one of my songs; he showed me how to get better drum sounds by choosing quality drum samples, as well as basic editing and mixing techniques.
