I currently work as an instructional assistant within a writing program at UC Merced, and as a research assistant for a neuroscience lab. As a student, I have always been interested in a balance in the humanities and sciences. Writing has always been a strong point for me, and I have a very intuitive understanding in the mechanics of structure and rhetoric that makes an effective writer.
In becoming a more balanced student, I have excelled in the sciences-- particular biology and chemistry. I have tutored in writing & reading comprehension, math (pre-algebra, algebra & geometry), biology and chemistry. I have a broad range of clients, from the ages of 10, all the way to adults in their 30's. I have taught students who are former delinquents trying to put a step forward, to young adults striving to improve their grades or test scores.
I am passionate about helping people achieve their goals, because my energy resonates from my own desire to continually improve my own self. I am a positive, and upbeat mentor who can provide reliable feedback and program for anyone struggling with issues in classes relevant to what I can instruct.
Because I have immersed myself in the sciences, I can offer a way of teaching that is very versatile not only to math courses, but to subjects that include math such as chemistry and physics.
I used to be a premed student, which requires an extensive exploration of multiple topics within biology. Having said that, biology is a field I am very knowledgeable in, and I can provide a network of instruction that will allow a student to understand the emergent aspects of biology necessary to grasping more challenging and defined concepts.
Because of my current position as an instructional assistant, I have an advanced approach to multiple disciplines in writing from fiction to non-fiction, essays to abstracts. I have experience teaching writing not only to college and graduate students, but also to young adults trying to improve their reading comprehension and writing skills.
