Bio

My name is Kaustubh and I am a first year undergraduate student at University of California, Merced. My name is Kaustubh and I am a first year undergraduate student at University of California, Merced. Tutoring has been a passion of mine since I was in ninth grade, when I would oftentimes finish math tests first and would end up being the person who my classmates asked for help to explain difficult concepts. Doing this repeatedly made me realize that everyone has different learning styles, and the reason why some people do poorer on tests than others isn't because they're not as smart, but rather because the standard textbook approach which teachers use doesn't work for everyone.

My experience with tutoring was furthered by my volunteer experience with two organizations, Jeena and DCA Tutors. The first, Jeena, is an organization which is dedicated to providing special needs kids with academic help and life skills training. As a volunteer tutor, my job was to teach (virtually) elementary math and English to kids who had a variety of neurodivergent conditions such as autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, and many more. It wasn't always easy because I had to take a completely different approach with each student, but in the end seeing the satisfaction on their face when they learned something because they had a tutor that didn't just shut them down at first glance made it all worth it. The second organization, DCA Tutors, is a high school initiative founded by some of my peers in high school that provided remote tutoring to anyone in the country that was interested. I ended up receiving a Silver President's Volunteer Service Award for Jeena and DCA Tutors because I completed 180 hours of volunteer service for each.

All this experience has taught me that not one size fits all and that's okay because I'm going to work differently based on each student's learning style, which is why every student that I teach will soar in their academic performance and even gain an interest for the subject outside of the classroom.
