ACT English

The English portion of the ACT test requires solid knowledge of grammar and sentence structure. It is important to begin to build the child's vocabulary. Practice, skills acquisition and having some fun is my method.

ACT Science

I have worked for several reputable tutoring companies and was trained on all four sections of the exam.

ADHD

ADD and ADHD are learning disabilities that affect a child's ability to focus long enough to retain any information. The ADHD has an added component of hyperactivity and usually occurs in boys. I have a M.S. in Special Education. I have worked with a number of students with attention difficulties. I find it is best to break the material into small pieces. I try to simplify the language so the concepts are easier to comprehend. Manipulatives and diagrams help to hold the child's attention. Overall, I try to access all three modalities: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Hopefully, the student can make connections through a combination of these methods.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have a M.S. in Special Education. I specialize in working with students on the Autism Spectrum. I can teach them new lessons or just review ones that they have learned in school. I realize that autism involves deficits in socialization, communication and inflexible behaviors. There are also occasionally intellectual delays that occur. I try to tutor with a positive attitude. I am always kind to my students. I will try to strengthen the areas that they are weak with guided practice and instruction.

Dyslexia

I have a M.S. in Special Education. I have worked with Dyslexic students for the past nine years. Dyslexia is disorder that affects one's ability to decode words, comprehend reading and also write sentences and essays. I will assess my students initially to determine in what areas the dyslexia is having an effect. Then I will customize the sessions to help them with these difficulties. I will use their school books as well as some of my own materials.

SAT Math

I have worked for two reputable test prep companies in West Los Angeles. I have also learned some of my own techniques. Also, I have a master's degree in Education.

Special Needs

I have a M.S. in Special Education. I specialize in learning disabilities such as ADD, Asperger's/High Functioning Autism, Dyslexia, Nonverbal Learning Disorders. I have nine years experience working with these students.
