My name is Cailan, and I specialize in creating a positive and personalized approach to learning that adapts to each student’s unique goals, interests, and learning style.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Marine Biology from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. Before becoming a tutor, I worked as a research scientist at major universities and oceanographic institutions, conducting laboratory and field studies that took me to the frozen world of Antarctica, the vibrant coral reefs of Australia and the central Pacific, and the dreamy kelp forests of California’s Channel Islands. In recent years, I’ve served as a Project Manager for a nonprofit environmental consultancy, leading national ocean and land conservation initiatives.
Coming from a family of teachers, I have guided students of all ages across a wide range of subjects. I also draw on my background in surf instruction and personal fitness coaching to make learning engaging and confidence-building. Whether teaching science, surfing, or study skills, I focus on helping students develop habits of curiosity, clarity, and self-belief that carry far beyond the classroom.
