Thank you for looking at my profile. If you're looking for a tutor for yourself or for a loved one, know that you have found a kind, patient, conscientious individual who can deliver instruction effectively while building up a student's self-esteem. You have found a person who loves to teach and who has been working with individuals, small groups, and classes for about two decades. And you've found someone who will explain a problem concept in as many different ways as she can until the student understands, a tutor who will let the student come to her own conclusions, with the tutor's guidance and Socratic questioning, building upon the knowledge (s)he has.

Approved Subjects

CBEST

CBEST

I passed the CBEST the first time and had no problem with the language/writing portion. I would feel confident preparing students for any of the language/writing parts of the test.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I am trained in Lindamood-Bell symbol imagery and LiPS phonemic awareness programs and have used them since 1999. These techniques are used in the Lindamood-Bell clinics to help students with dyslexia to decode. I use these methods regularly in my ESL classes with my students when they leave out or add sounds to words.
ESL/ESOL

ESL/ESOL

I have over 14 years of teaching ESL in the classroom, an MA in TESOL, and tutoring experience with ESL students.
Phonics

Phonics

I am trained in the LiPS phonemic awareness program and have used it since 1999 to help students with phonemic awareness issues. Phonemic awareness is necessary to help students learn to decode words (i.e., read what words say). Teaching students sounds and how to put them together is the essence of phonics instruction. I enjoy teaching people these techniques.
