I began my teaching career as a private tutor in the affluent suburbs of Los Angeles, helping students of all ages in many different subjects; I have been a high school English teacher since 1992, teaching a variety of courses, from English Language Development to AP Language and Literature to mostly first generation students in the inner-city. I have also done extensive one-on-one home-school teaching through Carlson High School, working with students who -- due to injury or illness -- could not attend school.
I believe all people can learn and want to learn and that learning can be fun and meaningful and that a passion for learning can be contagious, especially from an enthusiastic teacher. I have also helped many high school seniors with personal statements for college applications and scholarships. It is something of a specialty, helping young writers find their voice and tell their story.
