Hi, I'm Gabriel, a Ph.D. student in Neuroscience at UCLA with a background in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and experimental data analysis. I help students in neuroscience, biology, data analysis, machine learning/AI, MATLAB, and scientific or essay writing. My undergraduate degree is in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, where I graduated Cum Laude and was funded by the NIH to conduct neuroscience research, and my graduate work focuses on connecting biological questions with real data.

My tutoring style is calm, practical, and concept-first. I work with high school, college, and graduate students who need help with topics like AP Biology, cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, statistics, Python or MATLAB data analysis, research projects, lab reports, presentations, and essays. I like to start by finding exactly where the material stopped making sense, then build a clear path from the basics to the assignment, exam, or project in front of you.

Because I work as a researcher, I can help with both the science and the thinking process behind it: reading papers, interpreting experiments, organizing data, choosing analyses, visualizing results, and explaining findings clearly. I do not just want students to memorize answers; I want them to understand why an answer is true and feel more confident solving the next problem on their own.

Approved Subjects

Biochemistry

Biochemistry

My biology background includes coursework and research preparation in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, and neuroscience. I can help students understand proteins, enzymes, metabolism, membranes, signaling, and the molecular logic behind biological systems. I focus on connecting pathways and mechanisms to the bigger picture so students can reason through problems rather than memorize every detail.
Biology

Biology

I earned my undergraduate degree in Biology with a specialization in Cell and Molecular Biology, and I am now a neuroscience Ph.D. student at UCLA. I tutor high school and college biology, including AP Biology, cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, physiology, and experimental biology. I focus on helping students build a strong conceptual foundation so they can reason through exam questions instead of memorizing isolated facts.
Data Analysis

Data Analysis

As a neuroscience Ph.D. student, I work with behavioral, video, and physiology-related datasets and regularly clean, visualize, and interpret real experimental data. I can help with statistics, regression, data organization, plots, research projects, and analysis workflows in Python, MATLAB, Excel, or similar tools. My goal is to help students understand why an analysis is appropriate, what the results mean, and how to explain them clearly.
Data Science

Data Science

I use data science methods in my neuroscience research to organize, analyze, visualize, and interpret complex experimental datasets. I can help students understand data cleaning, exploratory analysis, regression, model evaluation, visualization, and how to turn raw results into a clear interpretation. I emphasize practical reasoning: what question are we asking, what method fits the data, and what can we honestly conclude?
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I have written and revised personal statements, research statements, and fellowship applications for graduate programs and grants, including UCLA, UCSF, NYU, Princeton, UCSD, and NSF GRFP materials. These experiences have taught me how to shape raw ideas into a clear argument, tighten structure, and adjust tone for different prompts and audiences. I can help students with brainstorming, outlining, revising, and polishing essays so the writing sounds specific and authentic. I’m especially good at helping students turn technical or personal experiences into strong, focused narratives.
Genetics

Genetics

My undergraduate training in Cell and Molecular Biology included a strong foundation in genetics, molecular genetics, and how genes relate to cells, traits, and disease. I can help students with Mendelian genetics, molecular biology, gene expression, inheritance patterns, experimental design, and interpreting genetics problems. I make genetics less intimidating by breaking problems into clear steps and connecting abstract mechanisms to concrete examples.
Machine Learning/ AI

Machine Learning/ AI

My graduate research uses computational thinking and data analysis to study biological and behavioral systems, and I tutor machine learning/AI from an applied, student-friendly perspective. I can help with model evaluation, feature selection, supervised learning, neural networks, scientific datasets, and the intuition behind common algorithms. I focus on helping students understand what the model is doing, how to interpret results, and how to communicate limitations clearly.
MATLAB

MATLAB

I use programming and data analysis in my graduate research, and I can help students work through MATLAB code in a clear, practical way. I can support homework, scripts, debugging, plotting, data organization, matrix operations, and analysis workflows for science or engineering-style assignments. I focus on helping students understand the logic of the code so they can solve future problems independently.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

I am a Ph.D. student in Neuroscience at UCLA and have graduate-level training in neurobiology, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and experimental design. I help students connect cellular and systems neuroscience concepts to real experiments, data, and clinical or behavioral examples. I can support coursework, exams, paper discussions, lab reports, and projects that involve difficult neuroscience concepts.
Spanish

Spanish

I am fluent in Spanish and English and can help students build confidence with Spanish conversation, grammar, reading, and writing. I work well with students who need help understanding assignments, practicing pronunciation, reviewing grammar, or becoming more comfortable speaking. My approach is patient and practical, with an emphasis on using Spanish clearly and naturally instead of only memorizing rules.

A Tutor Who Truly Teaches

From my very first session, I could tell Gabriel was an exceptional tutor. Before our first session, he asked which novel I was reading and clearly spent time preparing specifically for my assignment. That immediately showed me how much he cares about helping his students succeed. What impressed me the most is that he doesn’t simply help you complete an assignment—he teaches you how to become a stronger student. We didn’t just work on my essays. He taught me practical academic skills, strategies, and exercises that I can continue using throughout graduate school and beyond. After only two sessions, I had already learned several academic skills that I had struggled with for years. Gabriel is patient, thorough, and never rushes through explanations. I always felt comfortable asking questions, and he made sure I truly understood the material before moving on. After each session, I felt confident continuing my work independently because I had not only made progress on my assignment but had also gained skills that will benefit me throughout my academic journey. If you’re looking for a tutor who genuinely teaches rather than simply helping you finish an assignment, I highly recommend Gabriel!

Excellent Tutor Who Truly Cares

Gabriel was very patient and helpful throughout my project. He took complicated data and explained it in a way that I could understand. He helped me analyze the data, identify important findings, and prepare my presentation. I especially appreciated how available he was to answer questions and how he made sure I understood the work instead of just doing it for me. I learned a lot from working with him and would highly recommend him to other students.

Found a winner!

Would highly recommend! Gabriel is helping me understand neurophysiology. It isn't easy finding a tutor who can explain difficult concepts to make them manageable. He has this gift and uses it well!
