Hi! My name is Victoria, and I'm passionate about learning both in and outside of academic settings. I believe that education is power, that anyone can learn with proper instruction and opportunity, and that basic scientific and mathematical literacy is a necessity in today's world.

I completed my BA in 2017 at Mt. Holyoke College - one of the Seven Sisters - in Biological Sciences before earning a Master's degree in Biology at Chatham University in 2019 and submitting my thesis on the evolution of sexual dimorphism in populations of endangered fishes across the US. The liberal arts foundation of my alma mater instilled in me a love of learning and enabled me to pursue a wide range of interests. I have since taken classes in cell culture and organic chemistry, and I am currently at UCLA working towards a PhD in Neuroscience.

Between 2019 and 2023, I worked as a research technologist at Johns Hopkins University studying the effects of stroke and neurodegenerative disease on the brain - using and improving upon my scientific knowledge and skills daily. I also founded TheNerdiestYet on Etsy to share my original and commissioned artwork.

I have gained teaching experience as adjunct faculty at Chatham University instructing an introductory lab course, as a TA, as a Wyzant tutor, as a horseback riding instructor and camp counselor, and as a volunteer at Janney Elementary School in DC. I have enjoyed teaching students ranging from first graders to college seniors and beyond, and I am excited to continue teaching as a tutor for all ages!

Please feel free to reach out and ask any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you!

I completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biology at Mt. Holyoke College and Chatham University and currently work as a research technologist studying neonatal hypoxic ischemia. I have taught laboratory courses at the college level and tutored science to a variety of ages. Much of my background lies in evolutionary biology and human and comparative anatomy. I even took an intensive human anatomy course at the Master’s level and studied human Cadavers hands on.

Biology

After taking AP Biology in high school, I completed my Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences from Mt. Holyoke College and my Master’s in Biology from Chatham University where I also submitted a Master’s Thesis on the evolution of sexual dimorphism in Cyprinodon fishes. I work currently as a research technologist studying the effects of neonatal hypoxic ischemia on the brain as well as various treatments and other neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. I plan to pursue a PhD in the coming years in neuropathology. I have also taught undergraduate laboratory classes as an Adjunct Professor at Chatham University.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

A research biologist myself with undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Biology and plans to pursue a PhD in neuropathology, I have extensive experience in scientific study. I tutored first graders for a year in all subjects at Janney Elementary in DC, have instructed children ages 8-13 in horseback riding and horsemanship, and taught an introductory laboratory class as an Adjunct Professor at Chatham University. I currently tutor students of all ages in science, math, writing, and related subjects.

I feel very much at home working with the MS Office Suite applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the online Office 365 suite, etc. Although I primarily use Mac products, I am comfortable using PCs as well and would be happy to share my experience with these applications as well as with basic computer skills. My experience with applications other than Microsoft Office include: Preview, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Acrobat, ImageJ/Fiji, Shaper3D, various internet browsers and email platforms, and more.

Proofreading

I have amassed extensive writing experience in my academic and professional careers - from college and graduate admissions pieces and essays on the subjects of English literature and world history to lab reports, Master’s theses, and scientific article manuscripts. In my previous teaching roles, I have also graded students’ work and helped them improve their writing in many ways.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

As both a student and professional scientist, I’ve given and attended countless presentations and discussions of academic research. I’ve also written abstracts and presentation materials for the purpose of sharing scientific findings.
