I understand how to play and improve in today’s computer era of chess. I always focus on WHY mistakes are made, which helps my students learn from them.

I have started playing chess at the age of 6, and fell in love with the game. I started competing in Nationally Ranked Tournaments at the age of 7 and I kept feeling the drive to compete. I competed in about 150 tournaments since, ranging from small local tournaments to national events. My journey to obtaining the national master title was long and difficult. I got stuck at almost every rating range imaginable. However, in Summer 2019, I finally achieved the National Master title with a National Rating of 2214.

I am still actively playing chess and improving! My current USCF peak rating is 2241 and my current FIDE peak rating is 2119.

Throughout my playing career, I have always loved tutoring chess. The beginnings of my teaching career started with starting a chess club in a non-profit organization in Southern California. I built a curriculum to teach students to play from scratch. I have since taught group classes and private lessons, to students whose skill levels range from not knowing how to play, to having a National Rating of 1600. I love to watch my students not only improve in chess, but watching their understanding of chess deepen and watching their interest grow.

If you would like to set up a lesson or have any questions, I would love to hear from you! I am very flexible and will work with your schedule.

Chess

I am a USCF chess national master. I have 7 years of teaching chess to students of all ages. Some of my chess students have gained hundreds and close to thousands of ELO points since my goal is to teach not only the game but skills such as energy management and how to deal with hardships within the game.

Great chess lesson!

My daughter really enjoyed her chess lesson with Caleb and learned some new tactics that she incorporated into her games. She’s looking forward to taking more lessons!

5 Star Tutor

My (9 year old) grandson has had several chess tutoring sessions with Caleb. I observed all the lessons either live or from his video recordings, and I also learned a lot. He is patient, supportive, highly knowledgeable, and an excellent and efficient communicator; in short, a superb chess instructor for kids or adults.

Great teacher!

I booked Caleb for my husband as a holiday gift. He absolutely loved the lessons. Caleb was extremely knowledgeable and an excellent teacher. He went over several games and pointed out opportunities for better play. He also discussed the reasoning behind each of his suggestions clearly, in a way that my husband could understand. He answered questions, and also gave advice on the best things to do to improve outside of the lessons. Caleb was kind, patient, knowledgeable and an excellent communicator. What more could you ask for?

Nice guy and quite patient

Caleb is an excellent teacher. He was able to jump right to the areas I needed to work on and recommended an excellent web site for calculation training.
