I started off teaching as a swim instructor doing summer swim lessons for all ages and experience levels at 16. Later in high school, I was a Teaching Assistant for younger students in German and APUSH as a Senior. In college, I was invited to apply to Tutor D-1 athletes at UCLA. I took up the opportunity and was lucky to get the role! I worked with up to 20 students a week each term, in all sorts of different courses, often helping them learn how to learn at this higher, more rigorous level....

I took up the opportunity and was lucky to get the role! I worked with up to 20 students a week each term, in all sorts of different courses, often helping them learn how to learn at this higher, more rigorous level. We routinely trained on writing/editing strategies, tutoring skills and more to maintain our UCLA PLF certification. As Peer Learning Facilitators (our official title), our goal was to support this adjustment to college level learning, expand on course topics, improve grades, and create an environment to help the students collaborate with each other. Some of my favorite courses to "facilitate" were Game Theory for Political Science, Natural Disasters, and Intro to Linguistics. It was always rewarding to see students turn around their grades or have a deeper appreciation for a subject. Students frequently reviewed me as one of the top tutors.
I love being outdoors and going to the beach. I am a lifelong swimmer, so I really enjoy similar types of sports like running, climbing, weightlifting, etc. and watching these sorts of "olympic sport" competitions. I am also super into music, whether playing my ukulele or tracking charts and upcoming artists.
As part of my job as a Peer Learning Facilitator (athletics tutor), I was certified in the week before school to be a UCLA Writing tutor. We learned about mental blocks in writing and various strategies to help students at all writing abilities and stages of writing.
