I have extensive experience tutoring students from all over the United States for over 18 years. I specialize in tutoring for ACT/SAT Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Precalculus, and Calculus. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin, and I have an MBA. My tutoring approach is to make the sessions interactive, enjoyable, engaging, lighthearted, and pleasant. I will go the extra mile to make learning a pleasant experience, and I have a lot of patience. I introduce the topics in a fun and creative way, and then teach the material step by step. By doing so, we can change a difficult question to something that is easier to solve.

I have taught students that are in middle school all the way to college, mostly in math subjects, for over 18 years. I have tutored students who need help with the ACT/SAT Math section, to help them attain the highest possible score. I focus on helping my students understand ACT/SAT concepts, strategies, and time management. I have also worked with Algebra and Geometry students who need help with specific math concepts, homework help, or final exam review.

I believe that every student can achieve success, as long as they have the support and resources they need. Feel free to contact me for any questions, or to schedule a session!

Accuplacer

Accuplacer

I am an expert on the content that is tested on the math section of the Accuplacer exam (Arithmetic test, Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics, and Advanced Algebra and Functions). This aligns with the ACT Math, SAT Math, Algebra, and Geometry tutoring that I also do.
ACT Math

ACT Math

I'm very dedicated to your success. I specialize in ACT math (and SAT math). I'll show you how to solve the ACT math problems, and also the underlying concepts plus strategies. I've been tutoring math for about 18 years, and as a result I have a vast collection of official real ACTs. I've worked out the solutions to every single math problem of every one of these official ACTs. We'll use these since they are the closest thing to what you'll see on test day. We'll work on concepts, strategies, formulas, time management, and confidence. My students consistently improve their scores, and some have even gotten full ride scholarships at major universities. I’m excited to help you achieve your best score!
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Algebra is one of my favorite subjects to teach. Algebra 1 is such an important subject because it sets the foundation for all future math. It’s the foundation for courses like Algebra 2, Geometry, and Precalculus, and it’s also a key part of tests like the ACT, SAT, GED, ASVAB, Accuplacer, IBEW, and more. Some of the topics we’ll cover include simplifying expressions, solving linear equations and inequalities, exponents, factoring, graphing lines, quadratic functions, systems of equations, absolute value, word problems, slope and y-intercept, and more.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I truly enjoy teaching Algebra 2, and it’s one of the core subjects that I teach most often. I have extensive experience helping students master its concepts. I've created colorful visuals, resources, and formula sheets to make complex topics easier to understand and more interesting. We’ll cover topics like quadratic equations, graphing and transforming functions, exponents, factoring, radical and rational expressions, systems of equations, complex numbers, sequences, completing the square, quadratic formula, synthetic division, circles, ellipses, parabolas, hyperbolas, arithmetic and geometric sequences, permutations and combinations, basic probability rules and more.
ASVAB

ASVAB

I have experience helping students on the math part of the ASVAB, including both the Mathematics Knowledge (MK) and Arithmetic Reasoning (AR) sections. I'll show you how to solve equations, understand geometric shapes, and work through word problems, so you can build the skills you need to approach the test with confidence.

Elementary Math

I have a lot of experience teaching elementary math. We’ll cover topics like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percent, decimal, place value, lowest common multiple (LCM), greatest common factor (GCF), geometry, measurement, money, time, patterns, bar graphs, dot plots, pictographs, and graphing. Sometimes, when I work with algebra students, we have to go back and review concepts like operations with negative numbers. That’s why building a strong math foundation early on is so important. I have lots of colorful resources that I create to help visualize concepts.
GED

GED

I’d love to help you prepare for your GED math section. I’ve worked with students in all kinds of situations—whether you’re coming back to math after a long break, struggled with it in school, or just want guidance to feel confident on test day. I’ve created color-coded visuals to make math easier to understand. We’ll go at your pace and focus on what you need. We’ll cover everything the test includes— algebra, geometry, and data analysis—so you’re fully prepared and ready to succeed.
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry was one of my favorite subjects in high school. I’ll help you build a strong understanding of Geometry. I have lots of colorful resources that I personally create, which I’ll share during our sessions to make learning more engaging and effective. I like drawing, and with Geometry, it’s essential to visualize and draw out problems — I’ll show you how we can use this approach to make concepts clearer. Some of the topics we will cover include conditional statements and truth tables, deductive and inductive reasoning, geometric shapes, angles, triangle congruence and similarity, the Pythagorean Theorem, transformations, area and volume, coordinate geometry, two-column proofs, parallel and perpendicular lines, circle theorems, and right triangle trigonometry. I look forward to helping you achieve success!
High School Placement Test

High School Placement Test

If you’re an 8th grader that’s going to be taking the HSPT (High School Placement Test), I can help you prepare for the Quantitative Skills section and Math section. I’m an expert in the elementary math, algebra, and geometry covered on the test. I have HSPT practice tests ready to use, or we can work with any materials you prefer. I’ll tailor each session to focus on what you need most, so you feel confident and ready on test day.
IBEW/ Electrician

Trigonometry

I have a lot of experience in teaching trigonometry. We’ll cover right triangle trigonometry, including the six fundamental functions: sine, cosine, tangent, secant, cosecant, and cotangent. I'll show you an efficient way to graph trigonometric functions using amplitude, phase shift, period, and midline. We’ll also dive into modeling circular motion—like the classic Ferris wheel problem. Additional topics include degree and radian conversions, trigonometric identities, inverse functions, and the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines. Through it all, I’ll make sure you build a clear understanding of every concept.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

I have a unique way of teaching vocabulary, and it definitely doesn’t involve memorization (that would be so boring). We’ll create pictures, and you don’t have to be able to draw to use this technique. For example, for the word ephemeral (which means fleeting, short-lived, or lasting only a brief moment), we could draw fireworks bursting in the night sky, or a soap bubble shimmering with rainbow colors. I can do the drawings or we can draw together. Just describing the drawing to me helps you to reinforce its meaning. We’ll end up with a collection of visual flash cards for vocabulary words. Other techniques I like to use are a word matching game and storyboarding.

Rita is a fantastic tutor

Rita worked patiently with my son for just a handful of sessions and was able to boost his math score on the ACT by 4 points (from 31 to 35). On his first test he reported difficulty in completing all of the problems and Rita focused on teaching him several time saving tips, as well as helping him understand how to quickly assess and understand what a problem was asking for. She created customize homework for him focused on his problem areas. Thank you Rita!

Experienced and strategic tutor

Rita is not a regular tutor; our daughter has tried a local educational training company which was not an impressed experience, they followed their stereotyped template but not for individual students. When our daughter turned to Rita, we could immediately tell the difference; Rita could sense the weakness of our daughter and intentionally trained her in this direction; she also helped our daughter with additional after session practices and focused on these problems which need special efforts. We are glad to see the progress of our daughter and hope if we could tutor with Rita in the first place.
