I have a Bachelor's Degree in English with the option to teach secondary education. I have worked for STAR Education, an after-school program, for 8 years now. I have a Bachelor's Degree in English with the option to teach secondary education. I have worked for STAR Education, an after-school program, for 8 years now. As a director of the program, I must know the curriculum being used at my school to extend the learning and principles into my program. I teach a variety of classes that are S.T.E.A.M. related all the way to Comic Book Club or Theatre. I believe using a project-based approach effectively allows students to learn at their own pace and experience the learning for themselves instead of a teacher speaking at them for an extended period of time. We also work on homework with our students, going over multiple subjects and grade levels. My students are in grade levels TK-5th. I have worked with students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) as well as other learning hindrances. I enjoy being able to watch my students learn and grow starting from Kindergarten and working all the way to their graduation ceremony.

I have been a private tutor for 10+ years. I have worked with many families to create individualized plans to help students in many areas, such as, organization, study skills, and reading comprehension. I like to not only help my students with their school work, but also give extra materials that can be used at any time to further their education beyond the classroom. I love to help students gain confidence in their educational journey as well as their social endeavors. I also like to help parents who may not understand the Common Core Curriculum or would like to know ways in which they can help their child/ren get off their devices and learn from the world around them. In all, I love working with children and I learn something new from each student I work with.

I have a joy for working with younger students. My experience with STAR Education has allowed me to learn Common Core Curriculum and hone in on the necessary skills to teach to students in Elementary school effectively.

I work with children of all educational and socio-economic backgrounds- students learning English as a second language, students with IEP's, students who are homeless, and many more. I engage students in a learning style that helps them gain confidence in their ability to learn on their own. I currently tutor students who are learning through a computer and I am finding ways to make their experience more engaging off of the computer. Going from directing an in-person after-school program to a digital program has had it's ups and downs but it has allowed me to create new curriculum to help younger students practice and improve their socialization, communication, and core class skills.

Alexis is exactly the person I have been looking for. She has taken so much pressure off of homeschooling my kindergartener who is very behind. Ms. Alexis has shown incredible patience and genuine enjoyment in working with my very outgoing child. She did an evaluation first and created a plan to get my child caught up and help us finish her first year of school successfully.
