Many high school and college students come to me feeling like calculus and college math are a collection of random formulas and steps that somehow “work,” but don’t actually make sense. Others do well in class but feel like their understanding is shaky; they can follow the process but not fully explain why it works.

Many high school and college students come to me feeling like calculus and college math are a collection of random formulas and steps that somehow “work,” but don’t actually make sense. Others do well in class but feel like their understanding is shaky; they can follow the process but not fully explain why it works.

If that sounds familiar, that means the concepts were never explained in a way that truly clicked for you, and that’s fixable. My focus is helping you understand why things work, beyond how to follow steps. Once the ideas make sense, the formulas stop feeling random, and you can approach problems with confidence instead of guessing.

In our sessions, I don’t just explain and move on. We figure out where your understanding breaks down, then guide you step-by-step so the concepts connect, whether you're working through derivatives, integrals, linear algebra, or differential equations. We’ll usually start with a quick overview, work through a problem together, and then shift toward you taking the lead (with support), so you can build real independence for exams.

I’m a UCLA graduate (Aerospace Engineering & Applied Math) with 700+ hours of tutoring experience on Wyzant since 2020. I’ve led calculus review sessions at UCLA, earned perfect SAT Math scores (3 times), and received 5s on both AP Calculus AB and BC. Students often describe my teaching as clear and structured, and many continue working with me because they gain both confidence and consistency. Parents often notice their students becoming more confident, more independent, and better prepared for exams.

I Cannot Recommend Shin Enough!

Shin tutored me in AP Calculus BC throughout the school year. I have always struggled with math, and this was definitely one of the more challenging math classes that I have had to take.
