Hey there! My name is Eli, and I'm a Harvard College graduate with a Concentration in Government and a Secondary in Film Studies. I've worked previously as a college admissions tutor, helping students gain admissions to top schools all around the country, including Harvard and Georgetown. I also have a background in test prep, including standardized testing like the SAT/ACT as well as subject tests (the NY Regents Exam in Spanish Language). I've been a public speaker since I was 5 years old and a stand up comedian since I was 8, so I've also developed a public speaking lesson plan that utilizes a "substance, then style" approach.
I work professionally as an actor and writer in comedy, so I always know how to keep my lessons fun and engaging, while still keeping students focused, efficient, and on track to succeed. Not every student is the same, and I can always adapt and improvise my lesson plans to fit an individual student's needs. It's incredibly important to me to provide more than just rote memorization techniques or methods to get an "easy A", but rather ensure that students have a deep, well-rounded understanding of the topics we cover, which is why I'm always willing to extend lessons to cover questions with which a student might be struggling. I have mostly worked as an online tutor for companies like CollegeVine and 1877 Ivy Tutor, but I've also worked one-on-one with students in their homes or at other places convenient for them.
I'm a first generation Cuban-American, and while we didn't grow up using Spanish on a daily basis in the house, I've always found that the language comes naturally to me. I've tutored on subject testing for Spanish in the past, and I'm confident in my ability to tutor in any level of the language, from beginner all the way up to AP. I tutored a NY-based student on his Regents exam in Spanish.
