Bio

I'm a native Mandarin speaker. I have been teaching Chinese online and in person for many years. I have worked with students of all levels, ages and needs. I adjust my teaching methods to suit each individual student. I can help identify problems that English speakers are likely to have, and I explain Chinese concepts in terms that make sense from their perspective. I’m open and willing to learn what you need to do your best learning.

I adjust my teaching methods to suit each individual student. I can help identify problems that English speakers are likely to have, and I explain Chinese concepts in terms that make sense from their perspective. I’m open and willing to learn what you need to do your best learning.

I care about my students and about teaching. I‘ve been told that I have enormous patience. When students are having difficulty or are not progressing as expected, I will talk with them first to find out if I need to adjust the way I present the subject. I believe that understanding the minds of my students is just as important as teaching them the knowledge of the subject. I always encourage my students to be curious, to be creative, and to be themselves. I recently had a very enthusiastic student who loved to act out the words she was learning. I would ask her not only to speak the words she was performing in Chinese, but also to write them down on photos I took of her performance.

My lesson plans and assignments are all personalized and made as relevant as possible for students. I enjoy being fully present for my students and improvising on the spot to make lessons more engaging and entertaining. For instance, during a recent session, a student’s little sister was hiding under the table where he was working. It was a perfect opportunity to teach him to say “My little sister is under the table.”

I have frequently received messages from parents telling me that their children have said things like, “I love my teacher," “She is my favorite teacher," and, “I wish all my other teachers were like her.” These messages are the greatest reward for my efforts!

I absolutely enjoy teaching Chinese and would love to share this beautiful language with you!
