Hey,

I'd love to talk to you in more detail about lessons and my teaching style, but will give you a brief description here.

Rather than have my students buy a book, I custom tailor a book for them based on three things...

1) What it is they want to learn
2) What artists/bands they are interested in
3) What their current skill level happens to be

I make all of my own handouts on the same music notation software used in most instructional books.

I make all of my own handouts on the same music notation software used in most instructional books.

I teach all styles of music to people of all ages at any level of experience.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in music performance from the University of Denver and currently perform around town on guitar, bass, and vocals.

I have a degree (Jazz and Commercial Music) from the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music. While at school, I got to study not only guitar, but also bass, vocals, and audio production. I received the "Outstanding Jazz and Commercial Music Undergraduate" award in 2011 as well as "Outstanding Junior Recital" (2011) and "Outstanding Senior Recital" (2012).

On a popular service finder site I received the "Best Of" award for 2015 and 2016.

Over the past 7 years I have taught guitar, bass, jazz ensembles, and rock bands to students ranging in age from 7-68. I really enjoy getting to know my students and help them achieve what it is they are striving for. Lessons with me are as serious or laid back as you'd like them to be. Please feel free to reach out and ask me any questions you might have!

I charge $30 per half hour and $50 per hour.

Music Production

Music Production

While attending school at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music I took audio production classes and recorded with various groups in their studio. As a freelancing musician, I now work with artists and songwriters who need recordings of them, or me playing an instrument. I work in Pro Tools and Logic X with a Universal Audio Apollo interface and an arsenal of instruments.

Piano

Piano

While my main instrument now is guitar, my first instrument was piano. I believe it is a fantastic first instrument because it is physically much easier to play than other instruments, and the theory is very easy to see on a keyboard. Even though my college degree has an emphasis in guitar, I passed 3 piano classes and a piano proficiency exam.

Ear Training

While at college I passed an ear training course. My students/bands consistently ask me to teach them songs I am not familiar with. I look the song up on the internet and, using my ear and music theory, decipher the parts.

Through my teaching I have transcribed and analyzed many songs which has greatly strengthened my knowledge of song writing and song structure. I currently work with a Nashville based songwriter who writes for other artists. Together we co-produced a song for an artist on the hit show "The Voice".

Experienced and Enthusiastic Teacher

I am so happy to have found Paul to help teach me guitar. He is an experienced and dedicated teacher---not his first rodeo....His passion for teaching and for the guitar comes through loud and clear. He has created an excellent notebook to help us beginning students move forward. He taught me basics and then, by virtue of this being a private lesson, was able to follow my lead for where to focus, when to speed through, and what portions of the lesson to slow down. I can't wait for our next lesson---in the meantime, I have some cool practicing to do!

Paul is super fun to work with!

Paul is really good at tailoring lessons to your individual goals and interests, and you can tell how knowledgeable he is about music. He also provides his own tabs for any song you want. For someone who’s used to trying to navigate guitartabs, this is extremely helpful

Equalization

How to use the equalizer supplied by pro-tools 2021.3. Paul was very patient, which I needed, going at my pace with thorough explanation. He paused to take any amount of time answering questions I had. He was complete. After the session, I eq'd a stereo, two mic, acoustic guitar part I had recorded, panning the two channels left and right. I am very pleased with the improvements I made, and the sound I got.

Great teacher!!

I had my first class with Paul and highly recommend him. He is very patient and knowledgeable about everything music related! I have experience playing the piano, but had no real knowledge about the guitar. He was able to fine tune his lessons to fit my needs with that background. I highly recommend!!

Knowledgeable and great tutor

He taught me how to play a song and taught me the different chords. He is very patient and gives you paper to print out to help you learn how to play. I do recommend his services

Paul does it all.

I contacted Paul for guitar lessons, with the goal of learning electric guitar to ultimately write and record my own music. Once we established my long term goals, Paul immediately adapted his lesson plan to my desired outcomes. We've created a plan to learn recording software basics, electric guitar, music production vocabulary, and more. Paul is patient, knowledgeable, and extremely talented. He doesn't talk at you, and instead quizzes you along the way to make sure you're retaining. Whatever your music goals are, Paul will work with you on a plan to accomplish them and set you up for success.
