Hey,

I'd love to talk to you in more detail about lessons and my teaching style, but will give you a brief description here.

Rather than have my students buy a book, I custom tailor a book for them based on three things...

1) What it is they want to learn
2) What artists/bands they are interested in
3) What their current skill level happens to be

I make all of my own handouts on the same music notation software used in most instructional books.

I teach all styles of music to people of all ages at any level of experience.

I hold a Bachelor's degree in music performance from the University of Denver and currently perform around town on guitar, bass, and vocals.

I have a degree (Jazz and Commercial Music) from the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music. While at school, I got to study not only guitar, but also bass, vocals, and audio production. I received the "Outstanding Jazz and Commercial Music Undergraduate" award in 2011 as well as "Outstanding Junior Recital" (2011) and "Outstanding Senior Recital" (2012).

On a popular service finder site I received the "Best Of" award for 2015 and 2016.

Over the past 7 years I have taught guitar, bass, jazz ensembles, and rock bands to students ranging in age from 7-68. I really enjoy getting to know my students and help them achieve what it is they are striving for. Lessons with me are as serious or laid back as you'd like them to be. Please feel free to reach out and ask me any questions you might have!

Ear Training

Ear Training

While at college I passed an ear training course. My students/bands consistently ask me to teach them songs I am not familiar with. I look the song up on the internet and, using my ear and music theory, decipher the parts.
General Music

General Music

I hold a B.M in Jazz and Commercial Music from the University of Denver. While at school, I performed in various ensembles on guitar and bass. I also took vocal lessons and passed a piano proficiency exam.
Guitar

Guitar

I hold a B.M in Jazz and Commercial Music with an emphasis in Guitar from the University of Denver Lamont School of music. I have been playing and teaching professionally for the past 7 years.
Music Production

Music Production

While attending school at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music I took audio production classes and recorded with various groups in their studio. As a freelancing musician, I now work with artists and songwriters who need recordings of them, or me playing an instrument. I work in Pro Tools and Logic X with a Universal Audio Apollo interface and an arsenal of instruments.
Songwriting

Songwriting

Through my teaching I have transcribed and analyzed many songs which has greatly strengthened my knowledge of song writing and song structure. I currently work with a Nashville based songwriter who writes for other artists. Together we co-produced a song for an artist on the hit show "The Voice".

Music production

I liked paul. He well educated and has a genuine connection with me. Thank you! I firmly believe he will be good for me. I just want to taught at a level I understand and making me a better musician.

I definitely would recommend.

Paul taught me the anatomy of the guitar, how it functions, how to achieve various sounds, how to identify issues within a guitar, and how to play Open Chords and Natural notes on a guitar. He is attentive, willing to answer questions, and adjust the speed of the lesson based on cues. Paul has helped me gain a greater understanding of the musicianship behind the guitar.

Kind & patient

Paul is a very kind person, patient with me as a beginner, explained concepts clearly and thoroughly, answered my questions easily. Truly deserves a 5-star rating.

Choose Paul!

The guy is a stud when it comes to learning bass. His teaching methodology gets you understanding and playing the bass quickly and his positive and encouraging manner sets a great tone for the meeting. Two lessons in, and I’m already playing songs I know and my wife and kids are impressed!

Excellent, Clear, and Likable Teacher

Paul did a great session on the basics of LogicPro. He's very clear, and builds the lesson so that the student will feel confident in using the software. I'm going to continue with him; he's just great.

Kirby, 1 lesson with Paul

Paul is just an all around fantastic instructor.

Between his patience, depth of musical knowledge from being classically trained, this is such a great person to take your musical education journey. Really enjoying my lessons so far and look forward to becoming a truly proficient guitar player under Paul's tutelage. Thanks Paul!

Good Stuff

Paul is showing me things that I just never bothered to look at in the past. Im seeing the guitar neck a lot better now. Paul is patient and very knowledgable...we are applying what he's teaching and its all going very well so far.

Awesome

great first session really met me where I am at in the process. I’m excited for more sessions. He was able to distill music theory at a very comprehensive level.

Experienced and Enthusiastic Teacher

I am so happy to have found Paul to help teach me guitar. He is an experienced and dedicated teacher---not his first rodeo....His passion for teaching and for the guitar comes through loud and clear. He has created an excellent notebook to help us beginning students move forward. He taught me basics and then, by virtue of this being a private lesson, was able to follow my lead for where to focus, when to speed through, and what portions of the lesson to slow down. I can't wait for our next lesson---in the meantime, I have some cool practicing to do!
