I'm Christina! I'm a UCLA PhD student in international education. I have a B.A. in International Development and Global Poverty from UC Berkeley, a mild/moderate disabilities elementary teaching credential from Loyola Marymount, a Masters of Science in Mild/Moderate Disabilities in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University.
I have taught a combination class of 4th - 6th-grade non-severely handicapped students. I have experience working with students that have specific learning disabilities (i.e. auditory or phonological processing deficiencies), intellectual disabilities, high functioning autism, and other health impairments (i.e ADHD). My students' levels vary from pre-primer to 7th grade. Therefore, I am familiar with common core standards at most elementary grade levels. Through the use of diagnostics, I identify what key concepts students need to master at their grade level in order to progress to the next school year. I love bringing new ideas and resources to my teaching that help engage students who may have a hard time learning traditionally. With patience and care, I combine kinesthetic methods and visual/auditory tools that make learning fun.
Though I am currently not a full-time teacher, I tutor many students. I have experience tutoring students from pre-k to 8th in all subjects. For high school and college students, I tutor in English, essay writing, proofreading, editing, and help with college application essays.
You know what is best for your child & I am excited to work in partnership with you! My students each have individual needs and I am fast at spotting them! I will learn what works best for your child, what kind of incentives they need, and how to most engage them. If I can't spot it right away, I will keep trying and work with you to find what is best. My experience in the classroom has taught me patience, love, and care will go a long way in my teaching.
