I love teaching one-on-one because it is personal and the student achieves results so much faster. The lightbulb going off is so gratifying!

Subjects that I specialize in are all levels of the ISEE, the HSPT, SSAT, SAT, ACT, and how to strategize taking standardized exams (and managing test anxiety!). English, writing, math, and biology are also topics that I have tutored for over 7 years. A number of my students achieved the scores needed to be accepted at Harvard Westlake, Notre Dame High School, Archer School, Brentwood, Windward, and other exclusive schools.

I tutored younger students when I was in primary school. I have also done a lot of informal tutoring in English for my friends and classmates while in college. I am a creative, patient and very empathetic tutor. I want my students to succeed and take the time to explain why a rule is in effect e.g. the Oxford or serial comma. When a person knows why something is used, they are more likely to remember the rule. It is important to me to inspire and give my students the knowledge to help them, help themselves. Consistent, regular tutoring sessions (just as in studying) embed concepts more readily than periodic sessions. Setting goals and expectations are important and one can track progress more easily.

I have an eagle eye and discerning ear for how English can be most effectively used. I am in the process of obtaining a Master in English Composition and Rhetoric.
