About Roula

My native language is Arabic and I fully understand and speak the Levantine dialect as I was born and grew up in Damascus, Syria. I have a B.A degree in Public Administration from the American University of Beirut (A.U.B) and MBA from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri. My A.U.B transcript reflects taking nine classes in modern Arabic language, heritage, grammar, poetry, linguistics and literature. In addition, I have practical experience using the standard Arabic language as I worked as an interpreter and translator for almost three years in the United Nations where I interpreted in classical Arabic and in Levantine dialect.
I also provided cultural explanations to international consultants and researchers to understand the Arab cultural in general and the Syrian culture in particular. I interpreted in various areas such as economics, agriculture, marketing, and legislature related to economy and polices which requires detailed understanding of the subjects involved. I have experience in teaching and I thought an excel course while I was working for the United Nations (UN).
Moreover, working as an interpreter in the United Nations enabled me to deal with people from various backgrounds. I enjoyed this position because I was dealing and interpreting for professional people such as international consultants working in academia. The academic environment and teaching are very attractive and rewarding to me as it enables me to exchange knowledge, help and make a difference in people’s lives. Classroom presents unique opportunities to share my management skills that I have developed in the business sector, as I am able to manage a large group of people. I understand the importance of motivation and communication to engage students or staff to reap best performance and satisfaction.

I am passionate about teaching Arabic (classical and colloquial) as I know I will be a great educator due to my well-rounded Arabic education, background and excellent job experiences. I am looking forward to meeting with you to discuss how my skills and experience can meet your needs.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any question or if you need to schedule a lesson.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
