About Richard

Bio

Hi! I am an actor with strong roots in the theatre, but I'm always excited to explore new mediums. I love working on everything from the classics to contemporary pieces, though there is a soft spot in my heart for new works and play development. I am a native Angelino, a foodie, a dog-loving family guy, and among many other things, a wine tasting junkie (Santa Ynez Valley stalker). And for the record: I am a super proud supporter of L.A's 99 Seat Theatre Community.

I have been a serious student of the acting craft for most of my life, and that endeavor has afforded me the opportunity to perform in theatres throughout the United States, as well as parts of Mexico and Canada.

In Los Angeles, I have had the honor of performing at, and working with L.A. Theatre Works, Kirk Douglas Theatre, REDCAT, Theatre @ Boston Court, The Actors' Gang, The Geffen Playhouse, Bootleg Theatre, The Company of Angels, The Bilingual Foundation of the Arts, East West Players, Highways Performance Space, Grand Performances at Cal Plaza, Casa 0101, The Getty Villa, The Getty Center, Skirball Cutural Center, Pantages Theater, Universal Studios Hollywood (various shows), and South Coast Rep's studio series. In addition, I have proudly been a long time member of Critical Mass Performance Group, and Rosanna Gamson/Worldwide. I've toured internationally with Rosanna Gamson/Worldwide. Both latter companies collaboratively and imaginatively devise new and original theatre and/or dance/theatre works to much critical acclaim.

As an arts educator and teacher, I have taught theatre/movement from elementary school to college conservatory courses. In Los Angeles (and surrounding areas) some of the non-profit arts organizations I have worked with include LACER Afterschool Programs, Will and Co, Company of Angels and artworxLA (formerly The HeArt Project). As a recipient of multiple grants from the Department of Cultural Affairs and the California Arts Council, I have, in collaboration with high school and middle school youth, adapted classic st

I completed three years conservatory program at LACC's Theatre Academy. Since then I have over twenty years of experience of devising and implementing theatre arts curriculum to students in grades k-12, as well as conservatory college courses. I am a professional actor, member AEA, I am an accomplished grant writer as well. What qualifies me to tutor in this field is my ability to communicate with my students to help identify what it is that he or she is looking to learn and/or improve upon. I have the capacity to then create a lesson plan that will help the student to acquire specific tools of the craft as desired. My pedagogy as a theatre instructor is not limited to coaching a scene or a monologue. It is immersive. Movement for the actor, if needed. Period movement. Voice for the actor. Character analysis. Text analysis. Shakespeare scene study. Acting Styles. Contemporary, classical, comedy, drama, new works. Television versus stage. Also, because I am an actor, I bring a state of the art mentality into my work that very useful for my students. I love teaching theatre because I loved being a student of the craft. I am still a student of the craft, and this, I believe, also makes me a great candidate.
