I hold a PhD from Stanford University and a bachelor's degree from Yale University. I am a lecturer at Stanford, where I design and teach undergraduate courses on how technology shapes our minds, behavior, and autonomy. I am also writing a book on the same topic.
Alongside my academic work, I have spent years working as a private tutor with elementary, middle, and high school students. I specialize in writing, research, critical thinking, study strategies, and academic coaching. I enjoy helping students not only understand challenging material and succeed in school, but also discover what they're capable of and develop the confidence to tackle increasingly ambitious goals.
I work with students across a wide range of ages, abilities, and learning needs, including neurodivergent students, academically advanced learners, and students who struggle with executive-function skills such as planning, organization, and time management. My approach begins with understanding each student's strengths, challenges, interests, and goals, then adapting my teaching to their individual needs.
Depending on the student, our sessions might focus on mastering difficult material, strengthening writing and analytical skills, organizing a major assignment, preparing for an exam, or developing more effective approaches to studying and managing academic responsibilities. I strive to create a supportive, engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenges.
I believe effective tutoring should do more than improve grades or help students finish assignments. It should help them become more capable, confident, and independent learners. I emphasize setting clear goals, breaking challenges into manageable steps, practicing deliberately, evaluating progress, and adjusting strategies based on feedback. Ultimately, I want students to develop the skills and judgment to direct their own learning.
I'd be happy to learn more about your student's needs and discuss how I can help.
