Greetings. I am a very experienced math teacher. I have taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 & Geometry for 12 years in public schools, & 1 year of private. I have tutored privately for more than a decade. My students have typically expressed a great appreciation for my disposition, strategies & style. My biggest strength is my ability to explain concepts to students in steps & make those steps connect to other things. Because I am not a mathematician through schooling I recognize that students need concepts broken down differently. Though I was a good student at good schools when I was younger, my math teachers didn't seem to care about making the math make sense for me. I work hard to make students experience with math not be so scary. I've been told I make it fun.
I enjoy the art of teaching, & take it seriously. My students' success is the most important thing, so I am not dominated by my ego. I excel at communicating. I do push students and require that they practice outside of our time together, but I do it with a smile and clear concise expectations & directions. I use tangible manipulatives and movement often. My Pre-Algebra students from last year are no doubt still singing my "order of operations rap". I am not afraid to help students in ways that are most comfortable to them. I bring a wealth of knowledge & methods that guarantee success as long as students are committed to excellence or at least getting their goals accomplished. I also bring kindness, consideration & an inspiring smile. Other gifts I bring to the table are study & note taking skills, time management activities, real world connections to the math concepts, organization & how to address issues with teachers. I have taught other subjects also, so I tie those into the lessons too. I have taught US history, African/African American History, Intro to Spanish, Health, Earth & Physical Science, Grammar, Vocabulary, English Lit/writing, Geography & Handwriting. I've taught grades 5-12, mostly concentrating on middle school. I have coached both sp
