Since then, I have successfully tutored a range of students from middle school to the graduate students, both in person and online. My own personal love of learning is what drove me to become a Wyzant tutor in 2013. Since then, I have successfully tutored a range of students from middle school to the graduate students, both in person and online. I strongly believe in everyone's ability to learn and I take responsibility for my students' success. The best teachers are not only subject matter experts, they are also creative, patient, and adaptive to respond to their students' needs. This is how I strive to be. If you are not grasping a concept, that is my failure, not yours: it's on me to figure out a teaching strategy that works for you.

In terms of my own education, I have a MA in International Economics and International Relations, from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (JHU-SAIS) and a BA in Global Affairs, French, and Art History, from George Mason University. I am also considering going back to school for a PhD in Economics - I'd love to be a professor one day!

First of all, you should know that I LOVE economics - I love studying it, applying it, talking about it, and of course, helping others to see its magic. Second, I am a trained development economist, with a Master's degree from John Hopkins University. Third, I have taught basic to advanced and applied economics, at the high school, college, and graduate level, including: microeconomics, macroeconomics, international trade theory, international monetary theory, statistics, econometrics, business and managerial economics. Finally, my professional life requires regular application of economic concepts. This means I can teach you using real-world examples and, believe me, it is a much more interesting subject that way. Because econ is such a versatile subject, it is a required class in a large variety of degree programs. This means econ classes can vary widely from class to class, using more or less math, different models, different notation, and different terminology. As such, I ask all students to send me their instructional materials in advance of our sessions. This allows me to guide you using the same methods as your teacher.

In addition to working in Excel for a number of years to perform a variety of tasks such as budget formulation and record keeping, I completed graduate-level coursework that required an advanced-level of knowledge in this versatile software. For example, I have built complicated financial models involving multiple worksheets and complex formulas.

Having lived and worked in multiple francophone countries for nearly five years, I am proud to call myself bilingual. I also formally studied the language for several years, from middle school through grad school, which gave me a deep knowledge of French grammar. I am not a native speaker, but that means I can leverage my own experience learning French with my students. I am very familiar with the unique challenges English speakers face in learning this beautiful but sometimes challenging language.

Finally feeling very HOPEFUL

I just had my first session with Amber. I feel confident that I found the right person, and I am looking forward to other sessions. I will update my review after my final exam, so far so great.

Environmental Economics, huge help!

Amber is super nice and accommodating as a tutor. I worked with her for a semester on an advanced environmental economics class at cal poly (a university). She was super knowladable, and very available. She helped me get a B in a class I literally thought I was going to fail. Thanks so much!

Madison, 13 lessons with Amber

EXCELLENT IN ALL WAYS!

Thorough, breaks things down into manageable parts, clear and concise . REally appreciate Amber . Also did her best to be available when she was really needed.

Wendy, 5 lessons with Amber

knowledgeable, patient and thorough!

Amber helped get through my International Economics course for a Master's level degree. She helped me understand the models and concepts I needed to know, which helped me prepare for exams and pass with good grades. She is very nice, understanding and really helped me in areas where I had very little knowledge. Absolutely great!

Gabrielle, 2 lessons with Amber

Focused, effective, positive energy, punctual

We definitely see an improvement in our daughter's performance and in her attitude towards French class. Amber always has a set of topics to cover and is able to address topics on an ad hoc basis when needed.

David, 10 lessons with Amber

Excellent tutor

Amber is an awesome tutor. She's really sweet, patient and easy to work with. I was able to start understanding international trade after having a few lessons with her. She has a very solid grasp of economics and I highly recommend everyone to consider tutoring with her if you have any problems with economics! I will come back to her in the future when I need more help in advanced economics.
