My passion for working with others in order to help them succeed comes from a long history in both school and work environments. Every job I have had has included working directly with people. I have a Bachelor's degree in both History and Psychology from Grinnell College (ranked top 20 in the nation), Master's degree in Museum Studies from Western Illinois University, and am currently working on a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies at Claremont Graduate University. As a current student, I believe that my abilities to tutor are enhanced because I constantly reflect on new ways of teaching and of learning. Understanding that learning skills are developed on an individual basis, I come prepared with a variety of tools for ensuring that the learning experience not only improves learning in the specified subject, but throughout your academic career!

I have specific strengths in tutoring for developing reading and writing skills, working with high school students and freshmen in college as a Supplementary Instructor in the English Department at California State University. This job also included test preparation for the SAT and ACT, as well as the CPT. Although studying for these tests may be stressful, preparing for the methods and the content can significantly improve your chances of getting into and succeeding in college! Now that I am also a certified Substitute Teacher, I am familiar with a variety of grade level content and standards.

I have a very flexible schedule, and only ask for a 2-hour notice for any cancellations! I know that life can be very busy and stressful, and all tutoring sessions should be beneficial for both parties. As such, I also offer make-up sessions so that no time or content is lost.

As a child, I played on a 3-hole golf league, then as a young adult, I moved up to a 9-hole golf league. In both leagues, I achieved 1st place consistently. I have been exposed to courses all over the world while traveling, including in Europe, Mexico, and Africa. Because I regularly go out to the driving range, I have been able to fine-tune the key elements of a swing, and can effectively communicate those issues with another player.

I was awarded as the Most Improved Player for 2007-2008 and 2008-2009. In 2009-2010, I was Elected Captain. In the championship matches at conference, I won 2nd Place for Doubles at in 2008, and won 1st Place for Doubles at MWC in 2009.I have taken tennis lessons for 16 years. I have worked for Summer Camp in Beaconsfield, QC for 2 years teaching 3-15 year olds in weekly lessons. I have also volunteered for bi-annual Grinnell fundraising event through donation-based lessons.
