I am retired from teaching, but I missed teaching. I enjoyed teaching very much, not only because I am teaching what I know, but I love to share my knowledge on subject matters with my students. My first priority is to find out what the students want. In private tutoring setting, I focus on what they need, and how they can achieve their goals. I will provide them with materials I have accumulated for the last 20+ years in terms of making learning fun and easy. Students have to buy a text book from any book stores.

Minimum lesson is 1 hour duration. Cancellation policy: if a student cancel the lesson in less one day before actual lesson day, s/he will be charged $25 for the cancellation fee. Please cancel one day before the lesson day, so I can plan what to do in advance, not a few hours before.

ESL/ESOL

I have a master's degree in TESL. I have taught ESL at LA unified school district, adult education division, for 15 years. I teach communication based teaching method in speaking and writing. reading and listening are passive acts, but speaking and writing skills are active acts. All adult must consciously learn new languages, ESL, to acquire American English.
Japanese

Japanese

I am a native Japanese language teacher. I have taught academic Japanese for 15 years at high schools in Long Beach USD and community colleges in Orange county. I am officially retired now, but I still teach a group of Japanese American adult students once a week on Wednesday for one hour and another group on Monday in Little Tokyo in LA. I also used to teach academic Japanese to adults at Long Beach Japanese school. The school was approved for high school credit test preparation. I can teach both conversational Japanese and academic Japanese.
Table Tennis

Table Tennis

I have played table tennis during my high school days for only a year and a half and reached the final in regional tournament and at a college for 2 years in Japan. I have coached high school students when I was in Japan and three middle school students in Santa Ana and presently adult students at YMCA in Torrance. I go to out of state for a senior tournament once a year and top 3 finishers in men's single, men's doubles and mixed doubles events for the last 4 years. It is very important to have a good swing/stroke form in the beginning because once you got bad forms or habits, it is too difficult to correct.

Knowledgeable, patient and supportive, great tutor!

Starting out from Zero knowledge in Japanese, Hiro has taught me in a very short time a basic understanding, vocabulary, ground rules. I learned so much more than I thought I would be able to. I look forward to learning more with his help. I like that the lessons are challenging but manageable because of his support.

I really enjoyed the lesson.

Very knowledgeable

Had a great experience. I needed help from someone who had expertise, not just a native speaker. If you need someone with a lot of knowledge, he is the right choice.

Superbly entertaining tutor

I really like Hiro's style. He expects you to do your homework (review the material), but as soon as a session starts he just jumps in and for the next hour it's a non-stop interactive adventure. You barely notice the time pass. He provides additional material to learn and he is accommodating to your choice of a textbook. Highly recommend.

Great to speak in Japanese for an hour!

We worked on conversation and reviewed my textbooks from college; he was a good tutor. Arigato, Hiro-san! I will look at my schedule and make another appointment.

A lots of patience.

My daughter was shy and embarrassed to be exposed to the situation that she had to communicate even when she doesn't know the language others speak. However he showed a great patience and was nice to her. Thank him a lot for that.

My 13 year old is just beginning from zero to learn Japanese. All good!! He starts with the basics and works up from there. He is patient and eager to teach. we haven't tried any other tutors as Hiro seems to be just fine!

... Hiro is the best!

In a matter of a few tutoring sessions, I have learned more Japanese than in months of taking an online course. Hiro is terrific, patient and has a great sense of humor. I make my living as a teacher and from one teacher to another, Hiro is outstanding. Ichiban ii!!
