Improving your photos, or combining images to create powerful images. Or creating vector illustrations from scratch. I've done—and taught—all these skills and more, with patience and humor.

I start every session by putting myself in your place: What do you want to learn? How much experience do you have with the programs?
I extensive teaching experience, over 20+ years to designers and non-designer, at Los Angeles schools that include UCLA, Harvard-Westlake, New Roads, and more. I've taught at numerous adult education companies across the country, including Sonic Training, AcademyX, and Office Pro, for clients that included Vans, Amgen, the U.S. government, Peace Corps and Community Bank. My student approval rating hovered at 9.6/10, with enthusiastic reviews. These include classroom settings, one-on-ones, and virtual.

I back up my teaching skills with a lifetime of real life, on the job creative experience. I'm a UCLA graduate, and a creative director, having worked in book publishing (I designed numerous book covers for New York Times bestsellers), marketing, and nonprofits (including the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica). I've won awards, mentored students, and get the most satisfaction when my students see what they can accomplish creatively.

I am also a professional photographer (my work has been on stock photo sites and in books), illustrator/cartoonist, and published author. (Do you like Mad Libs? I illustrated some of those covers!) I love variety, creativity, and helping others. I look forward to helping you!

Patient, knowledgeable (and funny)

Rick helped me with learning the basics of Photoshop. I'm starting at the beginning and he was extremely patient and well versed in the program. He's also funny (which is a good thing). Thanks, Rick!

Maisha, 1 lesson with Rick

Rick was very knowledgeable about Photoshop which was what I was trying to learn

I did not even know how to upload a ,ARW (RAW ) photo and he showed me how to do it and how to use adobe bridge effectively which as an adobe add on I had never used. He was also flexible with the time aas we went longer at my request. Obviously that could not be expected every visit but it sure was helpful. I highly recommend him for adobe photoshop. I cannot speak to other adobe products ( except adobe bridge that I just mentioned ) because we didn't go there

Rick knows his stuff

I needed guidance getting started with InDesign. I had a rough draft version I needed to clean up and he was flexible in his approach to meet my needs. Rick knew what he was doing and I enjoyed our session. We'll have another later this week.

Very knowledgeable and helpful

Rick was on time and in just 90 minutes showed me so much that I could do with InDesign. He is great at explaining things, very patient, and I have so many more options to use now thanks to him. I recommend him highly!
