I believe that math is for everyone, including you.

My name is Julie, and I am a math teacher at Oakwood Secondary School in North Hollywood. I teach Algebra, Honors Geometry, and Honors Precalculus, and I love helping students feel empowered in math and build confidence in their abilities. I have tutored students from kindergarten math to college math, so I know how to meet students where they are on their math journey.

I hold a Master's degree in Mathematics from CSUN and have a Bachelor's degree from UCLA. I have proven experience in helping students raise their grades by two letter grades, and my SAT students have improved over 100 points in the course of one year. I'd love to connect with you and your student to help them build their math foundation and confidence today!

Approved Subjects

ACT Math

ACT Math

I have experienced tutoring students for higher level math standardized tests and am very skilled at identifying tips and tricks for improving scores.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 focuses on linear equations and quadratic equations, and this class builds on many foundational skill sets, such as fractions, negative numbers, order of operations, and combining like terms. I work closely with students to ensure they understand the content they're learning in class while simultaneously reinforcing foundational skills that will help build their math fluency moving forward.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 was my favorite academic class I ever took in high school, and it is now one of my favorite classes to tutor and teach. As a tutor in the math tutoring center at CSUN, Algebra 2 is one of the most common classes I tutor, helping students understand functions, graphs and their shifts, understanding logarithms, and more. I am teaching Algebra 2 to high school students this summer, so I am definitely a qualified and enthusiastic tutor about this subject.
Calculus

Calculus

Calculus is one of my favorite subjects in math. I have tutored students in limits, derivatives, and integration, and my favorite part of Calculus is teaching related rates. No matter what topic of calculus you need help with, we will work together to ensure that the concepts become clear for you.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

As a former Center Director at a local Mathnasium, I have tons of experience working with elementary school students on basic math concepts. Students at this age often need help building confidence and basic math fluency, so I help them approach problems and concepts with problem-solving tactics that help them understand why math works the way it does.
Geometry

Geometry

I’ve tutored numerous students in both regular and honors geometry, and this year, I'm also teaching it at my school. I’ve worked with students in summer intensive programs and helped them keep up and thrive along the way. I will make sure your student has a clear understanding of the geometry concepts so they can apply them in numerous different scenarios.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

Linear algebra is the subject concerning matrices and determinants and solving linear systems. At the high school level, most calculations are for determining the matrix's determinant, adding and subtracting matrices, multiplying matrices, and finding matrix inverses. I have studied linear algebra at the high school and college level, and I have tutored college students in the subject as well. I am able to help students really grasp the concepts behind matrix properties so they can move forward in their studies.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is the building block of much of high school math. It helps students develop crucial skills that will be required for years to come. We will work together to solidify these skills while building in approaches for problem-solving and developing math intuition.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I teach Honors Precalculus and see daily all of the ways in which everything students have learned in math up until this point converges in precalculus. This can be overwhelming and challenging for certain students, particularly those who may have foundational gaps from previous math courses. We will work together to fill in any gaps and develop a strong intuition for the concepts in the course, so your student will thrive in their math class.
SAT Math

SAT Math

Preparing for the SAT Math section can feel really overwhelming, so I help students break it down into manageable checkpoints. We start with a baseline test to identify strengths and weaknesses. We then set a schedule until that test date that will help students learn new concepts, practice challenging problems, identify how to approach difficult problems, and apply test-taking strategies. Our preparation will involve practice tests, as well as subject matter overviews. Unless otherwise requested, I assign students weekly homework assignments to help them solidify and retain important concepts.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is one of my absolute favorite courses to teach, and I hope to help your student love it too! We will develop a deep understanding of the unit circle and triangle relationships, and this will help us develop a deep intuition for how Trigonometry works. This is my second year teaching Trigonometry, and I have a plethora of support resources to help our learning.

Very patient and helpful

Julie was a great help to my daughter. And when there was a part of her calculus homework that Julie didn’t have the solution to at her fingertips, she researched the issue and sent my daughter screenshots of the work demonstrating how to solve it. Extremely happy with her!
