Bio

I'm a UCLA graduate with a B.S. in Mathematics for Teaching. I worked as a full time tutor for over 4 years, which means I have over 1000 hours total tutoring experience working with students from 2nd to 12th grade, and beyond. In 2015 I earned my teaching credential and Master's of Education from CSULA, and I was an LAUSD teacher until 2021, teaching 7th grade math, Algebra 1, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, and Computer Science. I'm a UCLA graduate with a B.S. in Mathematics for Teaching. In 2015 I earned my teaching credential and Master's of Education from CSULA, and I was an LAUSD teacher until 2021, teaching 7th grade math, Algebra 1, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, and Computer Science. In 2022 I earned a second bachelor's in Computer Science from Oregon State University.

I tutor every middle school or high school math subject including AP Calculus (Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Calculus, Geometry, Pre-algebra, Precalculus, Trigonometry). I also tutor in some university-level mathematics (Single Variable Calculus, College Algebra, etc). I teach not only the procedures for completing problems, but also why those procedures work, where the concepts are used in the real world and why they are important. I have many engaging, intuition-building real-world mathematics lessons prepared for the most challenging subjects that have been extensively tested in the classroom for effectiveness. Because I tutor in almost every level of mathematics, I can effectively help both students who need help catching up to their peers and students who need more challenging work than they are given in school. I truly love mathematics, and it is my passion to inspire new students to understand and appreciate its beauty. I can't wait to hear from you!

Note:
I generally only do in-home tutoring for students who live within about 20 miles of 63116 (Tower Grove South) but I am also happy to meet any student at a public location (coffee shop, library, etc.) in or near the area. I have extensive experience tutoring in Algebra 1 since I have been tutoring professionally full time. Algebra 1 is one of the most common subjects I am asked to tutor. My student teaching was primarily in this subject, so I also have classroom experience in this subject.

I have had many requests to tutor Algebra 2 since I have been tutoring full time. Algebra 2 is one of the most common subjects I am asked to tutor, and I have now completely mastered the material, though I am learning more about how to teach it every day.
C++

C++

As an Undergraduate at UCLA, I worked for the Program in Computing Dept. in the computer lab where my job was to help students in Intro to C++ with their homework and answer any questions they had about C++ programming or using MS Visual Studio. I have completed Intro to C++ Programming (PIC 10a) at UCLA with a B+.
Calculus

Calculus

Calculus is one of my favorite subjects to help students learn. I have a ton of experience tutoring AP Calculus and college-level calculus and I really enjoy teaching the problem solving skills students need to solve the more challenging problems. I am very passionate about teaching Geometry in a pedagogically sound way. I believe in teaching with discovery and proof in this course. I am an experienced student in the subject (one upper-division Geometry course at UCLA and a few weeks on teaching Geometry in a Teaching course also at UCLA), and my student teaching experience included some teaching of geometry at a LAUSD high school.

Over the past year I have taught Prealgebra in the classroom. Helping students prepare the mathematical foundation for the challenges of Algebra I is very rewarding, and working with the material in Pre-Algebra is great because of how useful it can be in a student's everyday life.

I love Precalculus. I have extensive experience tutoring in Precalculus because it is one of the subjects I am most commonly asked to tutor. Helping students to form the mathematical foundation for the challenging material in Calculus is very rewarding, as is working with the talented high school students who take this course. I taught Precalculus in the classroom from 2016 - 2021 and I look forward to learning even more strategies for student success in the subject.

SAT Math

SAT math is challenging not just because of the knowledge needed to solve the problems but also because of the problem solving skills needed even for experienced math students. I enjoy and excel at teaching problem solving and test taking strategies, and as a classroom teacher and former full time tutor I am experienced in teaching all of the relevant mathematical concepts.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry, the branch of mathematics dealing with the relations of the sides and angles of triangles and sine, cosine and tangent, is fun to teach because of all of the real-life applications. I am a believer in teaching why unit circle trigonometry is so useful, how it is related to basic triangle trigonometry and where it comes from. I have tons of experience teaching this subject because it is an integral part of most Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus courses.

I love tutoring students in college-level essay writing! Although math education is my true passion, along the way to my degree in Mathematics I also learned how to communicate my ideas clearly, and organize my thoughts well in writing, skills necessary in the pursuit of mathematics. Not to mention that there were also several writing classes I took at UCLA. I'm a tough critic when it comes to writing, but if you work with me your papers will turn out better because of it.

Life Savior!

Carrie, saved my grade. As simple as that. I was completely lost in my calculus class at UCLA and she recapped the entire first half of the quarter for me. She pointed out the details that i needed to know, we did practice problems, she reviewed my homework and my quiz. Along with that, she not only helped me finish the practice midterm my teacher emailed us but she made another practice midterm on her own time. Carrie is very flexible, I can text/call her a few days before I need help and she's available and works with my schedule. I aced my midterm, and I'm seeing her again in two days! The most important thing is that we don't waste time, she isn't slow at helping me, she reviews the material before the session so we get a lot done in a little amount of time.

Carrie has been tutoring Geometry for my son, a freshman in high school, for the past several months. Knows everything!!

Carrie is a tutor who actually knows the material she is teaching. She doesn't have to look in the book and relearn it in order to help me. She knows her stuff and is very efficient. She answers me whenever I try to get a hold of her and is very compromising and understanding in regard to scheduling.
