Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary Math

I have helped teach math in Elementary school from K-5th grade as a room parent, and I enjoy reading and understanding the 'new styles" and additions that the curricula has each year, to maintain my skills up-to-date.

ESL/ESOL

English is my second language. I know how hard it can be to understand changes in grammar and analytical thinking. Now I know enough English to teach others with patience.

GED

I had helped students to get prepared for GED testing in the past.

Grammar

I have been taking English classes in college, in order to understand, apply and teach English grammar.
I have applied my learning by teaching ESL for two years.

Handwriting

As a Preschool teacher, a Special Ed Educator and a Kindergarten teacher, I have guided students in handwriting. I taught children how to correctly grip pencils and pens in order to write more fluidly. I explain why it is important to follow the steps when making a letter.
Clear handwriting is very important to develop so written communication is always understood.

Reading

I have been taking English classes in college, in order to understand what I read, and teach reading to kids.

Spanish

I am a native Spanish speaker. I have university training in how to teach in different approaches, grammatical, circumstantial, and conversational. In a formal group setting and in a one-on-one setting.
I have been using these methods for fifteen years with students from preschool through adult education with success.

Study Skills

I teach Study Skills and Skills for Academic Success at UCLA-Summer Discovery program for Junior high school and High school students. I enjoy bringing ideas about organization and time management to the students, so their time can be more productive, while taking responsibilities for their work as students, they enjoy the results and so they learn.

Vocabulary

I have been taking English classes in college, and reading a large variety of books in order to enrich my vocabulary.
I have applied my learning by teaching ESL for two years, and helping kids with learning English Vocabulary.

World History

World History is like a long, fun novel. One starts to understand people's behavior, and people's differences, when we learn World History. Living in United States, it is important to read, understand and learn about the history of our cultures. Let's read it with imagination, so you can enjoy it.

Writing

I have worked as a T.A. in an elementary school. I work with the School Readiness and Language Development Program (SRLDP), and with Special Resources (English and Math) improvement program to assist students with reading comprehension and writing, which developed their understanding in all the other subjects, making them better students, but most important, helping them enjoy their academic learning.
