I earned my B.A. in Psychology from Middlebury College, where I developed a strong foundation in how people learn, think, and interact. In Fall 2020, I completed Statistical Psychology, learning the mathematical foundations of hypothesis testing, common statistical tests, and data visualization. In Spring 2021, I completed Cognitive Psychology, studying attention, perception, memory, and executive function. In Spring 2022, I completed Social Psychology, exploring social perception, stereotyping and prejudice, persuasion, and social influence.
My teaching experience developed through four years of assignment-based college presentations to primarily fellow students ages 18-22. On April 22, 2022, I presented on altered states of consciousness during my college symposium. In Spring 2023, I presented on systemic racial stressors as part of my Psychological Resilience course. These experiences required me to explain complex psychological concepts clearly and make material accessible to students with different levels of familiarity. Rather than simply lecturing, I used open discussion and guided questioning to encourage students to work through ideas themselves. Listening to questions helped me identify confusion and adjust my explanations in real time.
This experience shaped my approach to tutoring. I believe effective tutoring goes beyond completing an assignment or reaching the correct answer; it should build confidence, critical thinking, and genuine understanding. I meet students where they are academically and adapt my explanations to their needs, learning style, and goals. My objective is not only to help students understand today's material, but also to strengthen their ability to approach difficult material independently.
