I am a PhD student in Neuroscience at UCLA with a B.S. in Psychological & Brain Sciences from UC Santa Barbara and a minor in Professional Writing and Editing. My academic and research background has given me extensive experience in neuroscience, biology, psychology, statistics, scientific writing, and data analysis. Before beginning my PhD, I worked as a full-time neuroscience researcher at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where I studied learning and memory and contributed to multiple research projects and scientific publications. I now conduct systems neuroscience research at UCLA, combining behavioral experiments, electrophysiology, imaging, statistics, and programming.
Much of my teaching experience has come from working directly with undergraduate and graduate students in academic and research settings, helping with scientific concepts, experimental design, statistics, coding, data analysis, and writing. I especially enjoy one-on-one teaching because it allows me to understand how a particular student thinks and adjust my explanations accordingly. Rather than focusing on memorization, I try to help students build an intuitive understanding of a concept and then learn how to apply it independently.
One of the things I most want to share as a tutor is the joy I have found in learning. Much of that enthusiasm was passed down to me by teachers and mentors who were genuinely excited about understanding how the world works. Their passion made it feel not only acceptable, but exciting, to be curious and to care deeply about a question. There is so much fascinating material to learn, and sometimes a student simply needs someone who can help them see why it is interesting. My tutoring style is patient, collaborative, and individualized, and I use diagrams, examples, step-by-step problem solving, and different explanations until we find one that clicks. My goal is to help students succeed academically while also making learning feel more approachable, meaningful, and hopefully even fun.
