My 20-year background as an educator includes thirteen years as a classroom English and ELD teacher, where I specialized in rapid language acquisition for adults and teens alongside advanced literary analysis. I also spent three years as an IB Film instructor, mastering the rigorous analytical writing and research methodologies required by the International Baccalaureate program. Additionally, I served for seven years as an instructional coach, training other teachers across Los Angeles to improve school-wide instruction and standardized test outcomes.

I’m a credentialed English teacher with a Master’s in Education from UCLA and a Master’s in Visual Anthropology from USC, plus 13 years of experience teaching middle and high school English, History, and Film. I help students build strong skills in reading, writing, public speaking and critical thinking. I have worked with students who have ADHD and find that the following strategies help them to engage in learning and stay focused: chunk tasks, use a timer, incorporate multi-sensory tools such as manipulative for math and highlighters for reading, provide interactive checklists and predictable routines, allow fidget toys, designate a quiet zone, provide immediate feedback and positive praise. I also collaborate with students to identify goals and opportunities to monitor progress towards those goals.

I help students build strong skills in reading, writing, public speaking and critical thinking. For students with autism, I check their IEPs, if available, and implement designated accommodations. Students with autism benefit from predictable routines, support in communicating, and strategies/tools that address sensory processing differences. Because autism impacts social communication, flexible thinking, and sensory integration, instruction must be explicit, consistent, and highly visual. I find that the following strategies help students with Autism to succeed in learning: visual schedules and timers, lessons that incorporate students' interests, chunking of tasks, sensory breaks and noise canceling ear muffs, and calm corners. For communication, students benefit from discussion guides with sentence and question frames and structured protocols.

I guide students to find their voice as they describe a particular challenge they overcame or an intellectual topic they explored in depth. In addition, I provide feedback to clarify, structure, and extend ideas, as well as edit the final statement.

I help students, including those with special needs, build strong skills in reading, writing, public speaking and critical thinking. As a teacher and education leader, I have worked with students who have IEPs and 504 plans to succeed in learning. In addition to reviewing IEPs and 504 Plans and implementing the documented accommodations, I collaborate with the student to review/identify areas of strength and areas for growth, then create an action plan for achieving goals. Together, we monitor the student's progress using rubrics, which I describe as "learning levels" like those in video games. This way, students become more motivated in moving up each level, and engage more in learning.

As a graduate student, I provided thesis writing support to my peers when they sought my expertise as a writer. As an education leader (Instructional Coach and Assistant Principal) for 7 years, I trained teachers on the research process and thesis writing process.
