Effective and Patient Tutor Specializing in Literacy

Hi! I’m Julia, a tutor with nearly 6 years of experience working with students from kindergarten through early high school. I love helping students become stronger readers, writers, and critical thinkers while building the confidence they need to succeed.

I earned my B.A. in Literature and Creative Writing from UC Santa Barbara, with minors in Applied Psychology and Professional Writing. I’ve worked with dozens of students one-on-one and in small groups, both online and in person. I specialize in phonics, phonemic awareness, reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing. I also tutor elementary and middle school math, history, and science.

Much of my experience has been with students who need extra support, including students with learning differences and English language learners. Outside of tutoring, I volunteer with CoachArt, mentoring young people with disabilities and chronic illnesses. I adapt lessons to each student by breaking skills into manageable steps, using visual supports and movement breaks, and incorporating their interests whenever possible.

My goal is to create a supportive space where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again. I love helping students recognize their own progress and become more confident, independent learners.
