Hi! My name is KJ. I graduated cum laude from Middlebury College with a degree in Neuroscience, and I have my PhD in Sociology and Demography from the University of Texas at Austin. I am currently a researcher at the University of Southern California, and my work focuses on aging, women's health, menopause, and stress.
When I tutor, I encourage students to discover why what we are learning may be useful to them. The motivation should be beyond just getting good grades and being successful, and instead try to be something that is exciting and motivating on a personal level. I always find that having a stronger purpose leads to more interest that results in better outcomes. I want to make lessons as enjoyable as possible, and I adapt my lesson plans and teaching styles to best fit my students and their needs. In addition to teaching writing, reading, sociology, and critical thinking, I can also help with college and graduate school applications.
When I was at Middlebury, I was a teaching assistant for Chemistry lab sections. I was also a graduate teaching assistant for a variety of population health and sociology courses at UT Austin as well as at a women's prison. In addition, I have given guest lectures at both UT Austin and USC on my research.
