I have extensive experience in single-session tutoring on a specific problem set or question. I also have also designed my own multi-session curriculums covering entire courses. Both methods result in extremely personalized and effective learning. I believe the best way to learn is to connect the subject matter to one's own experience; I therefore aim to help students use what they learn from our sessions to all aspects of their lives.
Outside of teaching, I have a variety of interesting experiences, from a job managing wild rattlesnakes and moving fish between ponds, to building a genetics lab inside my garage and doing research there on fungi and plants, to discovering and describing five new species of sea slugs. I can offer unique perspectives and educational strategies.
I have also published poetry and essays in magazines and on websites and made it into State speech competition. My experience with my own immigrant parents also taught me how to help ESL learners. I am also fluent in conversational Mandarin.
I was ranked in the top 50 USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) competitors nationwide last year. I have many self-made resources and up-to-date guidance for this competition, as well as experience creating high-quality mock USABO questions. I serveon the American Regional Biology Competition content committee. I am also a Science Olympiad captain.
