Hello! I'm Sarah, a former Ph.D. Philosophy student with a B.A. in Philosophy, summa cum laude. I am also a recording harpist in Los Angeles, with film music credits including David Fleming’s Emmy-winning score for “Jim Henson: Idea Man” (Disney+).
I have long been immersed in both music and academics; as an undergraduate, I played harp on a scholarship. I also have four years of cumulative tutoring experience at the college level, not to mention plenty of experience as a student myself. So I know firsthand what it’s like to struggle through an essay assignment, wondering where to even begin, wondering if my argument is strong enough, feeling discouraged when I worked really hard and didn’t get the grade I expected. But I also learned some tips and tricks along the way, and by working with students of different skills and learning styles.
As an undergraduate student, I tutored gen-ed history classes in person for three years, assisting with exam preparing. Later, as a Graduate Teaching Associate, I tutored undergraduate students in philosophy classes, both in person and remotely. I also graded and provided feedback on their papers.
My favorite experience as a tutor was watching students begin to gain confidence in expressing their ideas in written form. One of the best ways I found to achieve this was by bringing to their attention the things they were already doing well. It was gratifying to help them uncover their potential, so that they came to appreciate what they were capable of with a little direction and a lot of dedication.
So now I'd love to help you do the same, whether with English or essay writing assignments or harp! Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson. I’m as interested to hear your learning style as you are to hear my teaching style!
