Hello! My name is Grace! I recently graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor's degree in Education, and I also minored in math. My college experience gave me a good background in what I tutor, which is math, and it also instilled the importance of students having a deep understanding of the subject they are learning rather than simply being able to memorize and regurgitate information. As a tutor, I understand that students come with their own sets of skills and ways of processing and learning this information. So, I approach tutoring by getting to know a student's background and strengths in a subject and using that to guide the learning process. I am very patient and good at explaining concepts from different perspectives, and I think it is important to respect the different ways students think about math problems, even if they may be unconventional.
My experience tutoring includes about 10 years of working with students grades 5-11, preparing them for future curriculum. The subjects we covered included arithmetic, algebra, and pre-calculus. I would create lesson plans based on the math curriculum for the next year and work with them toward mastery of all concepts. I also helped them with homework and concepts they were struggling with in class. I also have some experience working in the classroom with elementary schoolers, specifically grades 1, 2, and 4.
I currently tutor a variety of math subjects. Let me know if you have any questions or are interested in scheduling a lesson.
