Hi, I'm Natalia! I'm a recent UCLA graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry. When I was a student, I found that I truly understood a concept when I could explain it to my fellow classmates and make them get it too. I felt such pride knowing that I understood the concepts so thoroughly, and I want to help other students feel confident enough to do the same. I often find the reason students feel like they don't understand what they are learning is that their teachers tell them they must learn it a specific way. For that reason, I like to first review material with students the way it was explained to them in a class, find where they feel they are disconnected from this method, and work with them to find a way that works specifically for their brains. No two people learn the same way, and so it is important to tailor how we learn to our own brain!
I worked as a student tutor for two years at UCLA while I was studying there; I got together with fellow classmates and students from courses I had already passed to review material for tests and do practice problems. Since graduating, I have been substitute teaching at middle schools and high schools in Los Angeles for the past two years. I have worked with students of varying ages across many departments (English, History, Science, Math, even a Farm class one time!) but my strengths lie in the Sciences, particularly Biology and Chemistry. Also, I lived in Madrid, Spain until I was 18 and I am fluent in Spanish, so if you're looking for ESL help or want to learn a new language, I'm your girl.
I'm looking to transition the skills I acquired working in classrooms to a more one-on-one setting. As much as I love working in a classroom setting, I don't feel like I get enough time with each student to really help them understand the work. One-on-one tutoring makes me feel more connected to each student, so I can give them exactly the help they are looking for. I'm always ready to answer any questions or schedule a lesson, so shoot me a message :)
