These experiences give me an insider’s perspective on how creative work is developed, refined, and brought to the screen.
Alongside my industry career, I have taught ESL at the Anglo-American School in Manhattan, drama at the Royal Masonic School in the UK, and delivered talks at BAFTA and USC. I have also worked extensively as a mentor: guiding an AP journalist through screenplay revisions now under consideration at a top-three agency, and helping an aspiring novelist restructure her first manuscript, which led to four published books on Amazon. In each case, the creator had vision but lacked the tools and clarity to execute it. My role was to help identify the goal and provide the means to achieve it. That, to me, is the essence of education.
My approach as a tutor is supportive, rigorous, and tailored. Sessions may involve workshopping a draft, breaking down professional scripts for lessons in structure and character, or applying creative-thinking strategies from my work with the Edward de Bono program. Students I’ve guided have completed polished screenplays, published books, improved academic writing, and gained confidence in their creative abilities.
