I’m a Ph.D. student at a leading private research university in California, with 4+ years of experience teaching writing skills, reading comprehension, social sciences, and humanities. I also hold BA and MA degrees in the humanities and have been working with large groups of students in a university classroom setting and on a 1:1 basis when requested as a TA. I work with students of all ages, though I’m especially passionate about supporting high school and college learners as they shape their academic and future paths. I tutor in subjects related to my academic background, including human geography, history, English, philosophy, ethnic and gender studies, and social studies. These specialties make me particularly equipped to support students in writing and research-intensive, conceptually complex courses. I’m particularly skilled at strengthening writing skills while tackling challenging subject matter, fostering growth in multiple subjects at once. I also offer support with ACT and AP exam prep, college application essays, and personal statements to help students craft a unique voice and recognize their strengths in the academic world.
I’ve developed methods ranging from structured coursework to interdisciplinary, discussion-based, and unconventional practices that draw on students’ interests, because I believe students often learn best through doing and relating to the worlds they are immersed in. These practices also address needs that often go unmet in traditional classrooms, especially for neurodivergent students with ADHD, autism, and auditory processing disorders, though they’re beneficial to many students without! Ask me for examples if you are curious, I’d love to chat with you about it! Students have remarked that their writing improved more in one semester under my guidance than in writing-specific courses, bringing their reading/writing grades from C+ averages to A+’s. No matter the subject or project, I’m here to help grow genuine understanding and enjoyment of learning!
