As an educator, I balance rigorous expectations with a holistic method to deliver the results you want. My approach targets multiple needs of each individual I tutor: working with me, students develop not only their academic skills, but their goal-setting abilities, their growth mindset, and their confidence as a learner.
Throughout a career in education spanning more than a decade, I have:
- Tutored elementary-age students in reading comprehension and writing
- Written and delivered curricula for 6th-12th grade students in English, History, and the general humanities
- Written and delivered curricula for college students in a variety of professional development areas, including resume building, time management, and professional communication
- Taught 9th-12th grade English and Humanities in New York City public schools
- Taught 9th-12th grade Grammar and Critical Writing in a non-profit after school program
In each of my listed experiences, I have worked with students one-on-one to build rapport and develop their skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking.
My qualifications include:
- Bachelor of Science in English Education from New York University
- New York State Secondary English Teaching credential (lapsed as of 2020 following a move back to my home state of California)
- Certificate in Restorative Practices from the Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility
- Educator Fellow in the 2018 Literacy Unbound Summer Institute at Columbia University
