My name is Imani Musembi, and I am a graduate student at the University of Southern California (USC), pursuing a Master’s in Applied Data Science. I hold a B.S. in Computational Neuroscience from USC, with specializations in Applied Analytics and Web Development. From early on, I recognized the transformative power of education and have since dedicated myself to helping students navigate their own academic paths with confidence and curiosity.
For over nine years, I have worked as a tutor and instructor across multiple disciplines, including mathematics, coding, and STEM-related subjects. My experience spans one-on-one tutoring, classroom instruction, and virtual learning, working with students from elementary school through college. I have served as a Coding and Mathematics Instructor for Juni Learning, a Technology Instructor at Lavner Education, and a Coding Instructor for USC’s Joint Educational Project, where I introduced young learners to fundamental programming concepts. Beyond individual instruction, I have also designed and led educational programs as the Elementary School Programming Director for USC Troy Camp and Vice President of Operations for USC Science Outreach, where I developed hands-on science curricula to make STEM engaging and accessible for students from under-resourced communities.
My teaching philosophy centers on adaptability and engagement. I believe that learning should be interactive, approachable, and tailored to each student’s unique needs. Whether guiding students through complex problem-solving in math, introducing them to the logic of coding, or reinforcing foundational skills, I strive to make abstract concepts tangible and relatable. I also emphasize building confidence alongside academic growth, ensuring that students develop problem-solving skills that extend beyond tutoring sessions. Education has played a pivotal role in shaping my own journey, and I am passionate about paying that forward by fostering curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning in others.
