Hi, I'm Emily! I am an outgoing individual who likes to take a creative approach to all things in life. I graduated in highest honors from American River College in May 2024 with an AAT degree in English. I am currently a Junior student at the University of Los Angeles working towards my B.A. in English.
I've been passionate about helping students succeed for as long as I can remember! My journey in tutoring began with volunteering at a local church, where I provided one-on-one support to students from kindergarten through 12th grade, focusing on general subjects and English skills. In college, I expanded my experience by working at the school’s Learning Resource Center, where I led small group sessions (4-6 students) to develop essential skills like essay structure, reading comprehension, and analytical thinking. Additionally, I've had hands-on experience as a student teacher and teaching assistant, where I designed lesson plans and led classroom discussions—skills that taught me how to keep students engaged and supported, no matter their learning style.
For the past 1-2 years, I’ve had the pleasure of working as an in-home and remote tutor, guiding students of all grade levels (K-12 and college) from a wide range of backgrounds. I have experience supporting ESL students and those with learning challenges, ensuring that each student receives the personalized approach they deserve. My favorite part of tutoring is finding new, creative ways to enhance the learning process for my students. I love figuring out ways to keep the material interesting and the student engaged. I like letting my students have a hands-on approach to their learning, from making new games or writing prompts together to choosing where we will work that day and more. Nothing is better than seeing their interest in material turn into success in their academics.
