Hello there, I'm Laurie! I'm currently a first-year at UCLA in pursuit of an undergraduate degree in public health. For a majority of my educational career, I didn't have a certain answer to the question "What's your favorite subject?" But over time, I’ve come to love the subjects I can deeply understand the “why” behind. My prior online tutoring experience with elementary students and my own education stand testament to the fact that understanding why an answer is the correct answer is the most important aspect in learning, and further than that, enjoying learning.

My tutoring approach focuses on creating a personalized approach, where students don’t just memorize and lose the information they temporarily retained once the test is over. In comprehending the “why” behind the correct answers to a question or the best way to state an argument in an essay, students will be able to learn efficiently and retain skills to use in higher levels of education, and ultimately attempt to enjoy the process of learning.

With 16 Advanced Placement classes under my belt and years of participation in the Honors/GATE program throughout my education, I am familiar with the difficult multitude of material that students receive nowadays. I understand that time is key in a student’s willingness to simply complete assignments versus to truly understand the content. I will be a vital tool in helping students prioritize strengthening their weak points and using their time effectively to build sufficient habits for future academic success.
