Hello there! I’m Jim. I'm an Essay Tutor, Editor, and Writer with 4+ years of experience in essay tutoring. Sometimes, academic writing can seem scary, daunting, and difficult - but we can change that. I believe writing is a fun skill we can always learn, re-learn, and improve, no matter our grade or skill level.
I hold an M.A. in English (McGill University, 2017) and a B.Sc. Honours in Psychology and English (University of Toronto, 2015). While at the University of Toronto, I have served as an Editor for an undergraduate research journal (Inkblot, 2012-2013) and the Editor-in-Chief of a student newspaper (The PeaSANt, 2013-2014). Since graduating, I have worked for 4+ major essay-tutoring and English/ESL-tutoring companies, like Paper Education Company Inc. (2022-2024), Tutor Doctor (2018), VIPKID (2018), and HelpHub (2014-2018). In my 10+ years of writing and teaching academic writing, I have learned that essays are much easier - and much more fun (!) - than one might think. I believe that a good essay primarily needs 1) ideas that truly interest the writer and 2) a decent structure, and the rest can be learned along the way.
The foundations of academic writing are applicable everywhere. When I'm not tutoring, I work as a Screenwriter (WGC) and Script Supervisor (IATSE 873) in film/TV - and as a Copywriter and Video Producer (StopThatSquirrel) in digital marketing.
