Hi, I'm Raya!
My passion for STEM started in high school, where I took AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, and AP Psychology. I was named valedictorian of Folsom High, and then went on to start college at UCLA. I am going into my final quarter at UCLA, where I am majoring in psychobiology. I am applying to medical school this cycle, and received a 526 on my MCAT, so I am more than happy to help with any medical school related questions as well! I've maintained a 4.0 GPA and I've been on the Dean's Honors List for all of the quarters I've attended, while taking general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, biochemistry, calculus, and psychology classes.
Besides classes, I've shown my commitment and passion for STEM through extracurricular activities, including behavioral neuroscience research, hospital volunteering, and leading the Liver Project, a student initiative fighting against liver disease.
My participation in the Liver Project specifically has shown me how impactful teaching and tutoring can be. I have experience teaching elementary, middle, and high school students about liver health and liver disease, and I've tutored students in biology, pre-calculus, and general chemistry. I really enjoy helping students work through the concept and logic behind the material, rather than focusing on pure memorization. I hope to make a lasting impact on my students so they feel more confident in their STEM classes, and are ready to succeed in any class.
