Hi! My name is Dr. Daniel D. I'm an Associate Professor in the Writing Program at the University of Southern California, host of the award-winning podcast Writing Remix, a poet, Kerouac scholar, and writing coach. I've earned a PhD and MA from Saint John’s University as well as an MFA from The Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University. I've been teaching Literature, Theory, Creative Writing, First-Year Seminars, and Essay Writing since 2009. I have an eclectic teaching experience in universities small and large. From teaching students in a research 1 school like University of Southern California, to teaching electrician and plumber apprentices, to working in the New York State and City system, my approach to teaching and tutoring comes from a cultivation of all these experiences.
My services as a Writing Coach & Creative Consultant is to ensure your personal VOICE is clearly heard while making sure you cultivate a skill set that will achieve any of the writing goals you have set for yourself. Working with me is a personable experience. This approach comes out of my experiences with students learning English as a second language, coaching clients through writing novels and books of poems, running creative workshops and DEIB workshops, as well as my own personal writing practices.
My podcast won an award in 2021 for excellence. Talking with guests from all over the world, with a variety of experiences, and reporting on current events has taught me to be even more empathetic, and it's positively impacted my teaching and tutoring approach.
Unlike working with a tutoring company, we work side-by-side. We become a team concerned only with YOUR success. I believe that my creative writing background as a Poet and my experience as a college professor since 2009 (currently part of the USC Writing Faculty since 2016) gives me a unique perspective on how to approach writing, both academically and creatively.
